Since 1973 this festival has offered a thoughtful insight into the film world emphasising, over many years, the impact of music on film. With this pioneering focus on both film and music, the Festival of Flanders has developed a strong following. Not only has Ghent become a meeting place for established and up-and-coming film music talent, but increasing numbers of other festivals have followed this one by also featuring music. The international character of the festival does not neglect the local film industry, and Flemish and Belgian films receive preferential placement in the programme. More than 200 feature-length and short films are shown in city cinemas throughout the course of the festival. >>
