RUBENS MARKET, 15 Aug 2009

Held each August in honour of one of the city's most famous sons, the Rubens Market is a colourful event where traders dress in the clothes that would have been worn during the 16th-century painter's lifetime. Held around Grote Market, the event recreates the scene of one of Ruben's famous works and is a great place to soak up the atmosphere and browse for goods. The market is usually held on Assumption Day, which is a national holiday in Belgium.
